Before We Were Born - by Annette Labedzki

absolutearts.com Portfolio

This image was created in Adobe Photoshop 7.
The image contains 6 layers. I started with a
photo taken here in Vancouver, BC. Then I applied
an image of a hand stitched fish, covered with
mother of pearl buttons. The fish image was
distorted. I added an overlay effect to create
a crackled appearance on the buttons. For layer
3 I applied a photo of a very old letter with
an overlay effect to create a feeling of a strange
and ancient land. In Layer 5 and 6 I added the
earth and its reflection and again manipulated the
effects to create the final piece.

Why Record Your Lifes Work? - by Annette Labedzki

Why Record Your Life’s Work?
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Lance_Winslow]Lance Winslow

It is well known that most of someone’s life experience, thoughts, innovations, or even inventions do die with them when they leave their life experience. Worse, we all suffer having to re-live these hardships or never realize the potential of their innovations. Thus, this is one of the travesties of life and death and a challenge for the future of humanity. Perhaps, this is why I recommend writing down your thoughts, ideas, concepts, and innovations for future generations.

Not long ago someone asked me why I was doing so much writing in early retirement; “Are you recording your thoughts because you know how fragile human life and health is.”

Luckily I am in perfect health, and mind, and yes, this could be one of the reasons I am writing it all down, although I generally never do anything for only “one” reason as I like to line up 100s of ducks and shoot them all with a high powered laser. This saves time, as you can solve problems with many components with simplicity.

Indeed, to answer your question, “YES” that is one of the major reasons, as I read something that Leonardo da Vinci once said, “I only have one regret, that I might die before finishing all my projects or writing down all my ideas” yes, that really is a bummer. Much like the burning of the ancient Alexandria Library; Terrible. In the future this problem will be solved, by downloading one’s brain or like the theory of recording an entire life.

Imagine how many great minds took it all with them, and how much further humanity could be ahead, had we had this information? Think on this.

Murder in the Woods: Near the University of British Columbia - by Annette Labedzki

absolutearts.com Portfolio

On Friday April 3 at 2:45 pm there were so many sirens and police about a half block away from our house. The day before I had seen a very long police escorted caravan of dark cars and I was curious which important person might be in town. I decided to walk half the block to the police and ask them. To my horror there were ambulances, yellow tape and police everywhere. They said that someone discovered a dead body; a sudden death. The whole city is shocked by the news and every eight hours or so the media reveals more information about the murder. A woman went for an afternoon jog and was killed and we still don’t know how and why. The RCMP and the media are surrounding our house. I really feel like I’m living in a horror movie right now. The large Crime Scene Investigation Unit arrived and police dogs. All traffic is blocked off and in a very sad and ironic way it is very peaceful here. The University Endowment Lands consist of 750 hectors of land and the police are doing a thorough grid search right now. My heart goes out to the woman and her family.

North - by Annette Labedzki

absolutearts.com Portfolio

We have two Korean students staying in our home. They are the cutest tiniest little dolls!  I am 5’10”, my husband is 6’ and my son is 6’1” so from our point of view the Koreans are tiny. Yesterday one student asked me if their presence in our home would influence my art. I pondered for a moment and realized that they indeed have inspired me to start creating a series of tiny art. I made tiny one inch square paintings. I’ve made quite a few one inch envelopes from recycled paintings. Ideally I would like to create tiny collages, textile work, handmade books and tiny drawings. However I do dread the photography of all the tiny work and I’m not sure if I should shoot each item individually or create some sort of tiny installation. I would appreciate it immensely if you the reader could give me some suggestions on this matter.

Thank you so much!
